I loved the way this started out as a standard Lestrade comforts Sherlock, but then starts turning much darker - very clever.

I don't see Hounds being at Christmas time - none of the outdoor scenes bear out a December timing. More a case of it being recorded before BELG, with ACD canon style continuity errors.
